Activities on Skye

Kayaking on Loch Slapin

Hillview B&B is ideally located for exploring both the Isle of Skye or the nearby Scottish mainland. Popular local activities include hill walking, climbing, sightseeing around Skye, fishing, golf, kayaking and cycling.

For the less energetic the cottage is perfectly located for some gentle walks along the Broadford village or around the bay to Irishman's point. Just outside of the village is a recently constructed 17km network of all-ability footpaths.

The Cuillins from Elgol

Skye is a mecca for climbers and walkers and boasts some of the most stunning landscapes to be found in the British Isles. Local guides can show you some of the most spectacular mountains in Scotland or explore the Cuillin ridge on your own.

Alternatively you can visit the impressive Loch Coruisk carved by ice in the heart of the Cuillins by taking a boat trip on the "Misty Isle" or "Bella Jane" from the fishing village of Elgol.

White tailed eagles can sometimes be spotted along the Skye coast

Skye is also a fantastic place to see some rare and unusual wildlife. If you are lucky you may see the elusive otters which hunt in Broadford bay. In the mountains you may see Golden Eagles or the extremely rare white tailed Sea Eagle which nest in small numbers on Skye.

Around the coast you may see numerous common and grey seals. Occasionally dolphins and porpoises visit the bay and boat trips to see minke whale and basking sharks are also possible. The Skye Serpentarium is a short walk from Hillview and is a popular local attraction especially with children wishing to handle snakes!

Stunning sea food on Skye

For evening entertainment around Broadford there are several restaurants and pubs in easy walking distance from the house. For example the Bistro restaurant at the local Broadford Hotel, the Claymore Inn and Creeler's restaurant all offer fresh local food.

For a special meal there is the world famous Three Chimneys restaurant in north Skye or Lady Claire MacDonald's Kinloch Lodge, a short drive from Broadford.
